Beautiful Bay Points in the Maltese Islands to Soak up from Your Yacht

There’s no better way to appreciate the beauty of the Maltese islands and the surrounding Mediterranean Sea than from the vantage point of a boat’s deck. Everything just looks more stunning while out at sea. Of course, being a group of islands, there are plenty of picturesque bays and spots worth seeing, but being on a yacht or boat offers easy access to all the magical secluded spots that are hard to reach on foot. Here are but a few, brought to you by leading supplier of boating products in Malta.

1. Il-Ħofriet/ Xrobb l-Għaġin

Within walking distance from St Peter’s Pool, in the locality of Marsaxlokk, there lie two perfect semi-circular coves, otherwise known as Il-Ħofriet. The smooth cliffs carved from white limestone contrast perfectly with the azure waters, making it a breathtakingly beautiful, picture-perfect place.

2. Fomm Ir-Riħ

Prominent cliffs dropping vertically for several metres into the deep sea below give way to a pebble beach. Although you can get there on foot – which can be a bit of an adventure – admiring it while at sea gives an even more dramatic impression.

3. The Blue Grotto

When sunlight hits this spectacular natural cave system, it reflects the white sandy seabed, the phosphorescent colours of the submerged flora, and the caves mirror the orange, purple and green off the minerals in the rocks.

4. Santa Marija Bay (Comino)

The crystal-clear waters of the Blue Lagoon need no introduction, yet if you’re seeking something quieter and much less crowded, grab a dinghy and make your way to its popular neighbour, Santa Marija Bay.

5. San Blas (Gozo)

Sister to Ramla Bay, San Blas is a more peaceful, pretty beach of reddish-orange sand. Lying at the end of a fertile valley in Gozo, the only way to get there from the mainland is on foot, down a steep hill, which discourages many people from going there. Take in the beautiful colours of the sand contrasted with the unspoiled surrounding rocks and greenery from the deck, or enjoy a swim to shore.

6. Fungus Rock (Gozo)

Located close to Dwejra’s mainland, completely encircled with water, is this 60-metre high limestone islet. Apart from its impressive presence, it’s also a great diving site. In 1992, this rock was declared a nature reserved and it is thus prohibited to climb it.
